Thought I would post about the Stand Up To Cancer stuff happening tomorrow on most local television stations. This is a great opportunity for people to realize how we are all touched by this disease in some way, be it directly in our own battle with the disease or indirectly in our relationships with family or friends who have been affected by cancer. Write Your Representative
This provides you a form to write your respective congressmen/congresswomen or senators. There is also a link on that page which provides you with contact information for your representatives. Also, don't forget about state legislators and local representatives. These community leaders may not have the power to address federal monies, but they do have some say in local policies related to public health.
Many may not realize how much funding has been reduced across the board by the National Institutes of Health, but it has occurring at an alarming rate. It does not just affect cancer research, but encompasses research in various branches of science in general. Please take the time to learn more about this and other issues related to cancer prevention, treatments, and research. It may actually save your life one day!
